West Kentucky Star-News: Grimes, Hollenbach and Wilson Top Straw Poll

HENDERSON, KY - At their 2011 annual state convention, held in Henderson on March 25-26, the Kentucky Young Democrats held a candidate forum for all the contested Democratic Primary races. At the conclusion of the convention, those members in attendance were polled on their candidate preferences for the offices of Secretary of State, State Treasurer and Commissioner of Agriculture. 

This straw poll produced the following results:

Secretary of State:
68% - Alison Lundergan Grimes
32% - Elaine Walker

State Treasurer
78% - Todd Hollenbach
22% - Steve Hamrick

Commissioner of Agriculture
61% - B.D. Wilson
15% - Stewart Gritton
13% - John Lackey
11% - Bob Farmer

In addition to the candidate forums, the Kentucky Young Democrats met with Lt. Governor Candidate and former mayor of Louisville, Jerry Abramson, conducted business and elected a new slate of officers for 2011-2012. 

Newly elected President, Liz Fossett of Fayette County, said of the straw poll results, "We have a strong group of candidates to choose from in May. Regardless of which candidates win, the Kentucky Democratic Party will be well represented in the fall. The Kentucky Young Democrats are excited to support Governor Steve Beshear and all the Democratic candidates for constitutional office."
